This blog is dedicated to Lucky, my sweet little girl who passed away in her sleep peacefully on 12-14-12. Lucky was a lemon beagle and came to us as a "rescue" when she was about 3-years old. While she was initially scared, the poor thing was all of 20-lbs (and for her size that was severely under weight) with lots of love and snacks she became the best friend a person could ever have - please give a rescue beagle a second change!

Genetically Modified Beagle Glows

Jennifer Viegas wrote this article and it was published online on Mon Aug 1, 2011. The Gist of her article is three fold - and I quote: 

  • Scientists have created a genetically modified female beagle that glows fluorescent green when under ultraviolet light.
  • The process to create the beagle, "Tegon," allows the glow to be turned on and off by command.
  • Researchers hope such animals will help scientists track the course of disease via fluorescence.

Poor Beagles. This makes me sad. Everyone should read The China Study and find out "how such diseases develop" it's already been figured out. Leave the Beagles OUT OF IT.

As the owner of three rescued Beagles, I find this deplorable.  What comes next?  Of course now that they glow they will be given diseases to watch their courses.  My Beagles are intelligent, and sensitive animals who earn their own way.  One is my service dog, and all three are therapy dogs at the VA. 

Time to stop this barbarism.
